Eliza Crowley

Eliza Crowley spent two summers as an intern in Dr. Christa Nehs’ lab at Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB), studying metabolism and brain health. During her first summer, she helped collect preliminary data and contributed to a research grant proposal. Her curiosity about the following stages of the project led her to apply for a second summer, during which she assisted with rat surgeries, data collection, and data analysis. Each summer, she and other Summer Premedical Research Internship (SPRI) students presented at the MGB Summer Science Slam, giving her the opportunity to share her work and connect with researchers and students from other universities. Dr. Nehs was an exceptional mentor, fostering collaboration and encouraging curiosity among her students. Outside the lab, Eliza shadowed physicians in a variety of specialties, gaining insight into fields she had not previously considered. Her experiences as an SPRI intern were integral to her medical school application process and became frequent topics in her essays and interviews. Today, she is a first-year medical student at Tufts University School of Medicine-Maine Track and is thrilled to be back in Boston.
